Truth and Lies

There are only two things. Truth and lies. Truth is indivisible, hence it cannot recognize itself ; anyone who wants to recognize it has to be a lie.

Classic Fragments 18 - Mrs Mulwray

Possibly the most successfully Chandleresque Noir made to date.

Mine Just the Same

When i went out the front door L.A was waiting for me. You could see as far as the mountains would let you. I didn't deserve it but it was mine just the same.

Make Ourselves Enemies

Our faith in others betrays that we would rather have faith in ourselves. Our longing for a friend is our betrayer. Often with our love we want merely to overcome envy. And often we attack and make ourselves enemies, to conceal that we are vulnerable.

Yesterday is Here

Well i'm going to New York City
And i'm leaving on a train
And if you want to stay behind
and wait till i come back again
                                Well today is grey skies
                                Tomorrow is tears
You'll have to wait till yesterday is here

Rooms Like Reveries

Beautiful women with nothing to do, drifting restlessly around their homes are a common sight in  fifties Noir. They light cigarettes, stare into space, listen to the radio, visions of melancholy boredom.

One of the best essays related to Noir that i have read for a while is Rooms Like Reveries written by Imogen Sara Smith and posted on Joan's Digest - A Film Quarterly. Highly recommended.

David Rachels

One of the best Hardboiled/Noir blogs around is Noirboiled Notes by David Rachels. He has also published his own book of excellent stuff.
